Increasingly, brands are advertising on 3D out-of-home billboards.
Why?
Because if executed well, it can create an optical illusion that grabs your attention and leaves a lasting impression.
Successful executions can also stretch ads beyond the billboard, and can achieve incremental reach through PR, social and across the internet.
Here are some recent sports-themed executions from brands in Australia and across the globe that have done just that.
Kia used the Australian Open to unveil their new logo and purpose

Commbank Matildas brand sponsorship campaign
As part of a broader brand sponsorship campaign of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Commonwealth Bank recently launched their first ever 3D OOH execution.
Located in Melbourne, this 3D billboard is a 236m square screen that is six floors tall.
Infosys leveraged their sponsorship of the Australian Open in a similar fashion, at the same location.
Infosys clearly see the value in 3D and tennis
They’ve also recently launched this ad featuring their brand ambassador Raphael Nadal in Times Square, New York to coincide with the US Open tournament.

Adidas leveraged Argentina’s World Cup victory by activating a giant 3D billboard of Lionel Messi in Dubai
Adidas received 250m organic views on this billboard. Although it received a whopping number of views, unbeknown to most it was actually a fake.

The LA Kings launched a campaign on a billboard the size of an NFL field.
